The "Mundine" was named after a famous Australian boxer (Anthony Mundine), and for the most part it was a high gamble by Ford, in terms of manufacturing and then selling a Jaeger. It was not exactly a secret that the Australian branch of Ford was teetering on the edge of closure or at least a severe downsizing, with all of the bad things that had befallen the country. It was pretty much all or nothing.

It was a success. The shot in the arm that Ford needed. They sold a pretty large number of "Mundines" to the PPDC, and Australia rather proudly fields them alongside other designs like the Striker Eureka.

The "Mundine" is built tough. Really, *really* tough. Multiple redundancies and thick armor keep it in the fight when other Jaeger designs would be pretty much "knocked out", if not flat-out killed. Its specialization as a close-quarters combat design means that it has to be. Hydraulics specially made to counter the expected increase in weight and other equipment added such as the MASC keep the "Mundine" highly maneuverable.

The weapons are no-nonsense and pretty brutal. Topping the "Mundine"'s arsenal is a pair of Jaeger-sized 40K-style Power Fists, because nothing says a louder "Fuck You" to a Kaiju than a house-sized highly-reinforced fist surrounded by a disintegrating aura hitting them in the face.

The "Mundine" has carved a name for itself amongst the Jaeger pilot community both because of its reputation as a robot that gets the job done and brings its pilots back home... and because of an interesting publicity gimmick that Ford and the PPDC pulled off.

The "Real Steel" Robot Boxing Tournament had recently started over on the state of Michigan, and many eager people were entering their own robot designs to gain fame-people which included several mega-corporations and factions like the U.S. Army.

The Pan-Pacific Defense Corps needed all the publicity it could get, so they decided to enter a design of their own, based on one of their Jaegers. While it would have been rather easy to enter a miniature copy of a recognizable design like "Gipsy Danger", those behind the idea noted that more attention would be drawn the farther they could get into the tournament... and the "Mundine" was the toughest design that had by far at the time.

So technicians at Ford Australia and the PPDC worked hard in conjunction and made a remote-controlled miniature (well, in contrast, standing at seven feet tall) version of the "Mundine", which they entered into the international version of the "Real Steel" competition.

The "Mundine" made it to third place. It was the only government-sponsored robot to make the top ten on that instance. Every fight won by knockout, each lasting at least a dozen metal-wrecking rounds. And every time, the "Mundine" delivered twice as much punishment as it took.

Needless to say, attention was drawn.
